Sure. To add to the original summary we'll say: We like to get noticed. Something that's funky or out there, yet tasteful at the same time would be ideal. If you look at the wine.net logo contest that was recently held on here, our favorite peice was #256 by barrywh. Juicy! Our favorite from this contest so far is the 2nd entry by Keegan re which we've asked him/her to tweak (see the chat thread for more details.) Just because we like that, we hope all of you don't follow that path though. There are other ideas, like using a big, artsy looking letter "D" that perhaps looks like a dock of some sort--even if its just a circle docking in to the back of the letter. Then the rest of the word could be in some font that looks nice. Another option could be to create a fancy icon then just type the word Dockwell. We're fans of the apple and shell petrol logos because by simply looking at the icon, you know which company it is associated with. We realize it gets harder to create an icon doesn't look exactly like the company name. Apple's icon is an apple, and Shell's icon is a shell. 2 great examples of companies with logos using icons that have almost nothing to do with the company name are Logitech and Motorola. From this contest we also like JDK design's submission because we've never seen wireless rays drawn like that...it's different--although we do feel it lacks much color and character. kshdzines first submission is also very interesting, although we just don't think it works. She went for it with that concept and we appreciate that. Hope the extra info helps. Just go for it, and we think you'll know if you hit it.
Just an update incase anyone feels like whipping something together at the last second: Our favorites right now are #s 299 and 307. 1 is a simple and elegant design that just "works" for us. The other is much louder, but the logo contains an image that nobody else thought of...and we like it. We would change the colors, text, font, etc., but barry is on the right track.
A few things we've learned are that we definitely want the entire word to be the same color....unless someone's logo incorporates an image as one of the letters--in which case a different color may be OK for that letter. Also, we seem to prefer when the entire word is lower case i.e. dockwell, instead of Dockwell or DOCKWELL or DockWell, like we've seen.
