...maybe because the client can only see ideas, no headers...
...If Michelangelo Buonarroti alive today and neither knew anything about Photoshop or Illustrator, he was a genius as an artist but a lousy graphics designer... the customer always pays for what he sees and if he sees only a sketch he cann't pay for a header that he must imagine ...
I guess they don't say why a design was eliminated? I mean, I get that it means it wasn't what they were looking for, but a detail or two about what exactly turned them off?
Why exactly did the rest of us bother? Seems you could have saved a lot of designers the trouble by just keeping the results of the first TFIHW contest and having him revise a little. What a complete waist of time.
Guess my definition of cheesy is different than most.
DCL, they "had to see some other designs in order to make a decision". On the second contest they rise the bid $50. So I do not think this second competition has been a waist of time.
It is true that droekle could have been more engaged with feedbacks. But he wanted to see what was offered by designers. I would have liked droekle had chosen the option with Helvetica font but...
"Guess my definition of cheesy is different than most. " You don't need to say things like this...
Well, of course YOU don't think it was a waist of time. Honestly, your winning design is only a couple revisions different than the original one they "mistakingly" chose the first time.
Nothing they saw after had any potential? Oh yeah, we don't know because not a word was said about what they liked/didn't like. So, I'm sorry for the cheesy comment, you're right - I didn't have to say that.
But, from where I'm standing - the effort put in, the fact that no feedback was given so other designers would know which way they were heading and have a chance, and the outcome being so close to the outcome they already had - in the end, it WAS a complete waist of time for those of us that blindly designed for nothing.
"Well, of course YOU don't think it was a waist of time. Honestly, your winning design is only a couple revisions different than the original one they "mistakingly" chose the first time."
I always don't think that a contest is a waist of time if there is a winner on that contest. So I'm not thinking that this contest was a waist of time because I won. Please, do not try to misinterpret what I say.
If you would have written Droekle asking him, you would have understood that he was looking for a design as the person who enters into a gallery to buy a picture. The person who comes to buy a painting to a gallery is not asking to change some things from it and that was the Droekle's point of view. Of course, it was desirable that Droekle has guided us all towards a clear concept.
To all who participated in my contest--THANKS! This design was my first contest so I wasn't quite sure what was expected from me. I can see by the comments that I should have given more comments along the way. My problem is that I had a basic idea of what I wanted which I thought I described in the overview, but apparently more was needed. I just wanted to see some variety from several different designers and then make my decision.
Because it was a contest, I don't feel that it should be a waste of anyone's time, but rather a chance to develop your individual skills as well as showcase your work for other clients that may like your particular design style. I had a hard time trying to describe what I wanted, so to me it was like buying a pair of shoes or a suit. I had a basic idea of what I wanted, but once I got to the store and started looking around, I may have found something that I liked that was totally different than what I had in mind when I went into the store. It's one of those "I'll know it when I see it" type of things. That's why I was looking for a variety and when I saw some of the other designs, I found out I like one of the first designs from my original contest. That's why I increased to fee from $200 to $250 so that I could encourage some additional designs. I told the one designer that I couldn't make a decision until I saw some additional designs in order to make sure that I got what I considered the best for my application.
I'm sorry if I didn't give more feedback on each design, but when asked questions, I tried to answer them the best I could.
